About
Also known as: Stephen Mark Overland
Steve Overland has spent close to fifty years as one of British melodic rock's most reliable voices. He started out with his brother Chris in Wildlife, got signed to Chrysalis, and then landed on Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label, even being managed briefly by Peter Grant. A song the band cut, "Shot in the Dark", later became the blueprint for Ozzy Osbourne's tune of the same name, though Wildlife's version never saw an official release. His best known act is FM, the AOR band he formed in the mid eighties. They scored minor UK chart hits like "Frozen Heart" and "Bad Luck", worked with Desmond Child, and supported Bon Jovi, Tina Turner and Meat Loaf. After a split in 1996 and a one off reunion at Firefest in 2007, FM came back for good and have kept releasing albums, most recently Brotherhood in 2025. Alongside that, Overland has been busy with The Ladder, Shadowman, his own band Overland, and more recently Kings of Mercia with Fates Warning guitarist Jim Matheos.
