About
Stiff Richards are a Melbourne garage punk band, even though our records list California as their origin. Their self titled debut LP came out in 2017 and has since been reissued on Drunken Sailor, with reviewers placing its melodic, hook heavy garage rock somewhere between the Saints, Paint Fumes and Black Lips. Songs like "Brainwashed", "Layla", "Bustin' Out" and "Ride on Me" are the ones that get singled out, and "Brainwashed" even slips in a nod to Minor Threat's "Seeing Red". A second album, State of Mind, followed in 2020. After that the band went quiet for about four years before returning with the GFC / Empty Barrels 7 inch on Drunken Sailor, a short, fast release that one reviewer likened to the Saints on speed. One member, Arron Mawson, also runs Legless Records.
