Strijktrio Appelfusie is a string trio made up of Charlotte Basalo on violin, Michiel Holtrop on viola and Kalle de Bie on cello. They play classical music that comes across as unexpectedly light, the kind of programme that is easy to settle into even if you don't know your repertoire. The trio plays for the Stichting Appeltaartconcerten series, whose professional musicians aim to move people with classical music while keeping the atmosphere relaxed, informal and welcoming. Their concerts run for about an hour and end with a slice of apple pie, which the series treats as a symbol of the warm, safe feeling it wants its audiences to have.
