About
The Sweelinck Academie is the national training programme for young classical talent, run under the roof of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. It takes in 60 gifted young musicians between the ages of 8 and 18, and the students who perform under this name come from that group. Think of them as the next generation of classical players, caught while they're still growing into it. Their training goes well beyond lessons on the main instrument. Each student gets individual tuition from a hand picked team of teachers, and also plays chamber music, sings in a choir, and studies solfège, harmony, analysis and general music theory. The idea is to turn them into well rounded, creative musicians who really speak the language of music, not just play their parts.
