Few bands have left a mark on as many genres at once as Suicidal Tendencies. Formed in Venice, Los Angeles in 1980 by vocalist Mike Muir, the group is widely credited alongside D.R.I. and Corrosion of Conformity as one of the founding acts of crossover thrash, pulling hardcore punk and heavy metal together in a way that influenced countless bands. Their 1983 self titled debut introduced "Institutionalized" to the world, one of the first hardcore punk videos to get serious airplay on MTV, and the band never really looked back. Over fourteen studio albums, their sound has stretched from thrash and funk metal to skate punk and alternative metal, with The Art of Rebellion peaking at number 52 on the Billboard 200 and earning gold certification. After a quiet stretch in the 2000s, they came back swinging with 13 in 2013 and World Gone Mad in 2016, both landing well with critics. Muir remains the one constant through all of it, the band's lineup having shifted around him for over four decades.
