About
Reading indie rock group Sundara Karma spent over a decade building a devoted following, and their final studio album Better Luck Next Time in 2023 turned out to be their finest commercial moment, peaking at number 13 on the UK Albums Chart. That record marked a deliberate step back from the electro pop territory they had explored on earlier releases, leaning into a rawer guitar sound. Their name, drawn from Hindi words meaning 'Beautiful Karma', always hinted at something a little more considered than your average guitar band. The four piece, anchored by vocalist and songwriter Oscar Pollock, debuted in 2017 with Youth Is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect, a silver certified record on the UK chart. Their second album, Ulfilas' Alphabet, produced by Stuart Price, earned praise from the Guardian and NME. After a run of EPs and singles through the early 2020s, including the 'Kill Me' EP and the single 'Godsend', the band announced in September 2024 that they were stepping away, closing the chapter with four farewell shows.
