About
Sunstroke Project are probably best known to the wider internet as the band behind "Epic Sax Guy", the meme that exploded after saxophonist Sergey Stepanov's solo in "Run Away" went viral following Eurovision 2010. The Moldovan trio, rounded out by vocalist Sergei Yalovitsky and originally violinist Anton Ragoza (who left in 2019), have made Eurovision something of a recurring adventure: they first represented Moldova alongside Olia Tira in 2010, then came back in 2017 with the electro house banger "Hey Mamma" and finished third, Moldova's best ever result at the contest. The President of Moldova awarded them the Order of Honour for it. Beyond the meme and the contest, Sunstroke Project have kept busy with yearly singles on their longtime label Sens Music and extensive touring. They even got a cameo on the Netflix series Travels with My Father, where comedian Jack Whitehall and his dad travel to Moldova specifically to meet and perform with them. In 2023 they entered the Moldovan national final again with "Yummy Mommy", finishing second behind none other than former bandmate Pasha Parfeni.
