About
Named after a blend of the words "synthetic" and "breed", Sybreed built their sound around the collision of industrial metal and melodic death metal, pulling in elements of groove, cyber metal and djent along the way. The Geneva quartet spent about a decade putting out increasingly ambitious records, starting with their 2004 debut Slave Design and running through four studio albums. Their final record before splitting, God Is an Automaton, dropped in 2012 and came with a run of music videos including the narrative driven clip for "The Line of Least Resistance", which follows a woman who discovers she is secretly an android. The band got an unexpected brush with wider recognition in late 2012 when contestant Rachel Aspe performed their track "Emma O" on the French talent show La France a un incroyable talent. After vocalist Benjamin Nominet left in 2013 the band eventually called it quits, but they have since come back to life. A remastered anniversary edition of Slave Design surfaced in 2024, reissues of all three later albums are in the pipeline, and Sybreed confirmed a full reunion in May 2025.
