Sylosis have built their reputation on a sound that refuses to stay in one lane. The Reading band blends old school Bay Area thrash with progressive metal, death metal and metalcore, all while keeping things tuned to standard pitch and free of the breakdowns that define so much of their scene. Guitarist and vocalist Josh Middleton is the constant at the centre of it all, having steered the band through seven studio albums on Nuclear Blast Records since their 2008 debut Conclusion of an Age. The band's story has plenty of turbulence in it. A serious RV accident in 2013 forced them off a tour with Trivium and DevilDriver, and a few years later they went on hiatus while Middleton stepped in as guitarist for Architects following the death of Tom Searle. They came back swinging in 2020 with Cycle of Suffering, which they promoted with a streamed live concert during the COVID pandemic, and their most recent album The New Flesh followed in 2026.
