One of the earliest bands to deliberately court a skinhead audience, Symarip carved out their place in reggae history with tracks like "Skinhead Moonstomp", "Skinhead Girl" and "Skinhead Jamboree". The group, formed in the late 1960s by Frank Pitter and Michael Thomas, consisted of members of West Indian descent and operated under a rotating cast of names including The Pyramids, The Bees and Seven Letters. "Skinhead Moonstomp" itself drew from Derrick Morgan's "Moon Hop" and proved durable enough to chart again in 1980, reaching No. 54 on the UK Singles Chart when it was reissued during the 2 Tone wave. The band officially called it a day in 1985 after releasing the album Drunk and Disorderly as The Pyramids, but they were far from finished. Members scattered across Europe and the US before Roy Ellis and Monty Neysmith eventually reunited, performing together at Club Ska in 2005 with a live recording released on Moon Ska Records. Trojan Records has kept their catalogue alive, putting out a best of in 2004 and a compilation called Ultimate Collection in 2009.
