About
Syrène Saxofoonkwartet is a Dutch saxophone quartet with a sound their own members describe as 'fresh sweet and firm', a combination of minimal music, touches of pop, and neoclassical sensibility. The four women actively seek out genre crossing territory, yet they are equally comfortable working through Haydn string quartets. Their album Building Bridges grew out of collaborations with composers JacobTV and Douwe Eisenga, as well as scratcher, DJ and producer Kypski, giving the record a pleasingly unpredictable range. There is something deliberate about their willingness to take risks: the quartet seems to regard a certain productive tension as essential to achieving the lustrous saxophone sound that defines their performances.
