About
Tab Benoit plays a battered 1972 Fender Telecaster Thinline and wrings from it a style that pulls together Delta blues, swamp blues, and soul blues in a way that feels distinctly rooted in southern Louisiana. Born and raised in Houma, he cut his teeth playing alongside genuine blues legends like Raful Neal and Henry Gray at the Blues Box in Baton Rouge, and by the early 1990s he was touring the country with his own trio. His 2006 record Brother to the Blues, made with Louisiana's LeRoux, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album, and he has taken home multiple Blues Music Awards including the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year twice. Beyond the music, Benoit founded Voice of the Wetlands, a nonprofit pushing awareness of Louisiana's disappearing coastal wetlands, and he owns both a recording studio and the Whiskey Bayou Records label back in Houma. His most recent studio work includes I Hear Thunder, a 2024 collaboration with fellow guitarist Anders Osborne.
