About
Tai Allen and Reg Wyns are a jazz and jazz fusion duo whose work draws deep inspiration from the founding figures of jazz and soul. Wyns was a member of Us3, the group behind the classic hip hop jazz track Cantaloop, which sampled Lou Donaldson. Allen is an artist compared to Oscar Brown, the singer, poet and political activist, and has a strong affinity for the productions Ray Brown made with Quincy Jones. Together they created the ICONS 100 project, a tribute to Miles Davis, John Coltrane and their peers built around both the original classics and the samples those recordings later inspired in artists ranging from A Tribe Called Quest and Erykah Badu to Amy Winehouse and Robert Glasper. For live performances of the project they assembled a lineup that includes Emanuel Ruffler on keys, who has played alongside Miles Davis disciple Wallace Roney, and John Lander on bass, keys and vocals.
