Half of the legendary Brooklyn duo Black Star, Talib Kweli has spent decades as one of conscious hip hop's most consistent voices. He and Mos Def formed Black Star in 1997, and their debut album the following year landed on the Billboard 200 while cementing a late 90s renaissance of Afrocentric, socially minded rap. Kweli's 2002 solo debut Quality pushed him further into the spotlight, with Kanye West producing the standout single "Get By", which cracked the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200. He followed that with The Beautiful Struggle in 2004, debuting at No. 14. In 2011 he launched his own label, Javotti Media, keeping full control of his output. More recently he has linked up with Styles P and featured Anderson.Paak on collaborations, staying sharp and politically engaged across every project.
