About
Tanith is one of the architects of German techno culture, a Berlin based DJ and producer who was at the heart of the scene before most people even knew what to call it. He was the resident DJ at the Ufo, Berlin's first Acid House club, and later at Tresor when it opened in 1991, making him a fixture at the exact venues where the culture was being invented. His 1994 Love Parade appearance became legendary when he opened the parade on board the Love Truck, a vehicle built from retired Russian tanks. Through the early 1990s he was a constant presence at major raves like Mayday and Nature One, though he eventually walked away from that circuit after falling out with the Mayday organizers, signing off in characteristically dramatic fashion with the opening of Einstürzende Neubauten's Haus der Lüge. His camouflage look was instantly recognizable throughout the decade, and in 1997 he released two albums under his own name, T A N I T H and Still, on the breakbeat label Timing Recordings.
