Tee Grizzley came out of prison in 2016 and made an immediate impact with "First Day Out", a raw Detroit trap record that racked up two million YouTube views in under three weeks, partly thanks to LeBron James posting about it on Instagram. That buzz landed him a deal with 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records, and the follow up single "From the D to the A" with Lil Yachty went double platinum. His debut mixtape My Moment arrived not long after, cementing him as one of Detroit's most vital voices. He has kept up a steady output since then, from the collaborative mixtape Bloodas with Lil Durk to his Timbaland produced album Scriptures and the 2021 effort Built for Whatever, which featured a stacked guest list including Lil Durk, Big Sean and Quavo. His 2023 album Tee's Coney Island brought him back to the Billboard Hot 100 with "IDGAF", a track featuring Chris Brown and Mariah the Scientist. Through personal loss and label grind alike, Grizzley has stayed one of trap's most consistent operators.
