Torgeir Byrknes, performing as Teebee, has been one of the more distinctive voices in drum and bass since the mid 1990s, when he released his first record out of Bergen, Norway. His sound sits in neurofunk and techstep territory but carries a darker, more atmospheric quality than most of what those labels usually suggest. Early on he drew clear comparisons to Photek, and he built his reputation through the Certificate 18 label before going on to co found Subtitles Recordings with fellow Norwegian Polar. He also threads in some unexpected sample choices, including the classic Chinese theme "On the General's Orders" from the Wong Fei Hung film series. His long running partnership with Calyx has been especially productive. The two released their debut album "Anatomy" in 2007 and have kept that collaboration going across several records, most recently the 2022 album "Plates". Solo highlights include "Through the Eyes of a Scorpion" and the DJ mix "FabricLive.76", and he picked up the Knowledge Magazine award for Best International Producer back in 2001.
