Teenage Bottlerocket plays the kind of Ramones worshipping pop punk that Punknews once called "the last decent band around playing Ramones y pop punk", and that was back in 2006. The Laramie, Wyoming band built their sound around twin brothers Ray and Brandon Carlisle, with guitarist Kody Templeman (also of The Lillingtons) adding serious punk pedigree. Their style gets tagged as "Ramones core" and "leather jacket punk", which pretty much nails it. They worked their way up from regional shows to Warped Tour appearances and eventually landed on Fat Wreck Chords, releasing albums like They Came from the Shadows and Freak Out! while touring with NOFX and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The band took a hard hit in November 2015 when drummer Brandon Carlisle passed away. They eventually brought in Darren Chewka from Canadian act The Old Wives and pushed forward, returning to Fat Wreck Chords with Stealing the Covers in 2017 and then Stay Rad! in 2019, their first album of new original material since Brandon's death. Volbeat even covered their song "Rebound", which says something about how far their reach extends beyond the pop punk world.
