About
TESS, the project of British singer songwriter Tess Jones, caught attention with the 2010 album Magpie, a record mastered by Simon Heyworth, whose credits include Nick Drake and Brian Eno, and produced by Howard Gott. Distributed through Cadiz Music via Universal Music, the album picked up praise from MOJO and The Independent, which named it among their best new music picks, along with coverage on several BBC Radio programmes. That same year, TESS finished runner up in The People's Music Awards Best Male Solo Artist category. The music sits in acoustic singer songwriter territory, with tracks on Magpie ranging from the delicate Lullaby for Maisy Jane to the more dramatic Blame the Capulet. Jones has since taken things in a band direction as the singer, guitarist and frontman of Tess Of The Circle, carrying that same songwriting sensibility into a fuller group sound.
