About
Texas Is the Reason only lasted about three years, but they left a mark far bigger than their catalogue suggests. The New York band came together in 1994 around two refugees from the hardcore scene, guitarist Norman Brannon (ex Shelter) and drummer Chris Daly (ex 108), who wanted to ditch the macho posturing and preaching of their old bands. Add bassist Scott Winegard and guitarist and vocalist Garrett Klahn, and you had a lineup that major labels were sniffing around from the very first show. Their self titled 1995 EP turned them into an underground sensation and inspired a wave of bands chasing a similar sound. The 1996 debut album Do You Know Who You Are?, produced by Jawbox's J.Robbins and released on Revelation Records, got them tagged as the next big thing. They split in 1997, right on the verge of signing with Capitol. Reunions followed in 2006 and again in 2012 and 2013, and the band reformed once more in 2025.
