The Answering Machine (GB)

Manchester indie rock band The Answering Machine made a solid impression in a short time, with their debut album Another City, Another Sorry arriving in 2009 after a run of limited vinyl singles that sold out fast. Their first single Oklahoma shifted all 500 copies in two days, which set the tone for a band that built genuine momentum the old fashioned way. They played Glastonbury and SXSW, toured the US playing venues like the Viper Room and the Mercury Lounge, and shared stages with Manic Street Preachers. Their song It's Over! It's Over! It's Over! landed on the FIFA 10 soundtrack, and two tracks featured in the BBC series Gavin and Stacey. A second album, Lifeline, followed in 2011, but the band announced they were disbanding that same year. Two of the members, Martin Colclough and Pat Fogarty, went on to run the Manchester indie label Heist or Hit Records.
