Playing on period instruments, The Bach Choir & Orchestra of the Netherlands has built its reputation around expressive, historically informed performances of large scale baroque choral works. The ensemble is particularly associated with Bach's St Matthew Passion, which it brings to life with a full cast of international soloists, each contributing their own emotional weight to the score. The Evangelist holds the narrative thread together while the choir shifts between moments of stillness and sweeping drama. Beyond Bach, the group has performed Pergolesi's Stabat Mater alongside soprano Olga Zinovieva and countertenor Aleksan Chobanov, and has staged Handel's Messiah in its original Easter context, presenting a work more commonly heard at Christmas in the season for which it was actually written.
