Few death metal bands have built a cult following quite like The Chasm. Rooted in Mexico City and now based in Chicago, the band has been driven since 1992 by Daniel Corchado, who handles vocals, guitar and bass, alongside drummer Antonio Leon. Their sound pulls from death metal at its core but weaves in threads of thrash, black metal, progressive and doom, resulting in long, atmospheric compositions built around complex arrangements and a strong melodic sensibility. Critics have pointed to Immolation and Morbid Angel as reference points, but The Chasm's mystical, occult leaning approach carves out its own territory. From their 1994 debut onward, the band stayed firmly underground in most markets while earning serious respect across Latin America and Europe. Signing to UK label Earache Records pushed them to wider audiences, and their catalogue has only grown more ambitious over the decades. Their 2022 release The Scars of a Lost Reflective Shadow shows no signs of the band slowing down or softening their approach.
