Rooted in the Anglican church music tradition, the Choir of St John's College Cambridge traces its origins back to the early sixteenth century, making it one of the oldest choral institutions in England. Based at St John's College in Cambridge, a city home to no fewer than thirty chapels and choirs, the ensemble numbers around eighteen singers, mostly students at the college, who perform weekly services in the Gilbert Scott Chapel alongside two organists. The choir has toured concert halls across the world, carrying the distinctive warmth of the English choral tradition with it. For a long time membership was restricted to boys, but girls are now welcome too, a change that has only enriched the already layered sound. Their repertoire spans sacred choral music and seasonal works including Christmas carols, and the blend of young voices in a centuries old tradition is what sets them apart.
