About
Also known as: Crystal Method, The, The Chrystal Method, The Cystal Method, Thze Crystal Method, crystal method
Few electronic acts had the kind of crossover reach that The Crystal Method built through the late 1990s and 2000s. The Las Vegas born, Los Angeles based duo of Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan became pioneers of breakbeat and big beat, blending acid, funk, rock and hip hop into something that felt genuinely different. Their 1997 debut Vegas went platinum and landed in video games, films and advertisements, with tracks like "Busy Child" and "Trip Like I Do" becoming genuine touchstones of the era. Tweekend followed in 2001, pulling in guests like Tom Morello and Scott Weiland and reaching number 32 on the Billboard 200. Legion of Boom in 2004 kept the momentum going, with "Born Too Slow" appearing in Need for Speed: Underground and the album selling over 25,000 copies in its first week. Subsequent albums Divided by Night and a self titled record continued their run. In 2017, Ken Jordan retired from music, leaving Kirkland to carry the name forward as a solo project.
