About
Formed in Cumbernauld, Scotland, in 2005, The Dykeenies built their reputation on sharp indie rock with enough melodic ambition to get them onto the NME's O2 Rock N Roll Riot Tour alongside The Horrors, The Fratellis and The Maccabees. Their debut album Nothing Means Everything landed in September 2007, produced with help from Jim Abbiss, the man behind sessions with Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian. The band cite David Bowie as a major influence and even covered Starman live during their album tour. After a lineup shake up and a second album, Canyon of Echoes, released in October 2011, the band split in January 2012. They came back for two shows in 2017, and in May 2018 put out the EP I Wanted To Show Her All The Beautiful Things in the World, a title lifted from Bret Easton Ellis's American Psycho. It is a band that has never quite followed the obvious path.
