About
Few bands in technical death metal push as hard at their own limits as The Faceless. Formed in the Encino neighbourhood of Los Angeles, they built a reputation on dense, intricate riffing and ambitious concept albums. Their 2008 record Planetary Duality cracked the Billboard 200 at number 119 and earned serious critical attention, landing them tours alongside Meshuggah, Lamb of God and In Flames. Autotheism, their 2012 follow up, climbed even higher to number 50 on the same chart and hit number one on CMJ loud rock radio. The band has never had a stable lineup, with guitarist and founder Michael Keene often the only constant. He wrote most of Autotheism essentially as a solo effort, and by late 2014 he was the sole remaining member after a wave of departures. The group has since rebuilt several times over, releasing their fourth album In Becoming a Ghost in December 2017. James Dorton of Black Crown Initiate came on board as lead vocalist in mid 2022, giving the band yet another fresh voice to work with.
