About
Also known as: Foreign Exchange
The Foreign Exchange is a Grammy nominated duo built around an unlikely transatlantic pairing: North Carolina rapper and singer Phonte and Dutch producer and multi instrumentalist Nicolay. They came together in 2002 and have carved out a distinctive space where hip hop and neo soul overlap, blending Phonte's warm vocals and lyrical depth with Nicolay's richly layered production. The group operates under the +FE Music umbrella, which has grown into a collective with additional members including Zo!, Carmen Rodgers, and Tamisha Waden. Their discography spans albums such as Authenticity, Love in Flying Colors, and Tales from the Land of Milk and Honey, with the more recent Terra Firma adding to a catalogue that consistently rewards close listening. Few acts pull off the hip hop and soul fusion with as much genuine warmth as these two.
