About
The Hot Lies were an Adelaide alternative rock band who got their break the old fashioned way: a home recorded demo called "Bullets and Blacklines" ended up on high rotation at Triple J in 2004. From there it moved fast. Their EP Streets Become Hallways spent more than 30 weeks on the AIR Indie Charts, and they landed support slots with Alexisonfire, Sum 41, Yellowcard and Good Charlotte. Blunt magazine and Rolling Stone both tipped them as ones to watch in 2005. The lineup featured Pete Wood on vocals, with a bassist who came over from I Killed the Prom Queen. A second EP, Heart Attacks and Callous Acts, spawned the videos for "Promise Me" and "Tell Me Goodnight". Their 2007 debut album Ringing in the Sane cracked the ARIA top 40 and traded their harsher post hardcore roots for hook heavy, pop leaning rock. Singles "Tokyo" and "Emergency! Emergency!" both got video airplay. They called it a day in December 2009 and played two farewell gigs in Adelaide in January 2010.
