About
Also known as: Hotknives, The Hot Knives
Few ska bands from the English south can claim forty plus years of continuous activity, but The Hotknives from Horsham have been at it since 1982. They built a loyal following across Europe through relentless gigging and a string of studio albums, from their early work through to Home on Grover Records, Screams Dreams and Custard Creams, and 2010's About Time. Live favourites like "Holsten Boys", "Alcoholic Nightmare" and "Julie Julie" have become genuine crowd staples at ska festivals worldwide. The band has gone through plenty of lineup changes over the decades but has kept its core sound intact. The current four piece, anchored by Mark Carew on bass and lead vocals, Richard Allen on keys, and Stuart Brown on guitar, still performs regularly and headlines festivals across Europe. In 2023, the tribute double album Living On Dreams And Custard Creams arrived on Specialized Records, featuring forty versions of Hotknives songs by bands from twelve countries, which says a lot about the reach and affection this Horsham outfit has earned.
