About
The Internet got their name from a throwaway comment by Odd Future's Left Brain, who joked he was "from the Internet" when asked where he was from. Syd loved it, and what started as a side project for her and fellow Odd Future member Matt Martians grew into one of the more distinctive acts in alternative R&B. The band's sound pulls from soul, jazz, funk, hip hop, and electronic music, with a loose, warm feel that sets them apart from most of their contemporaries. Their 2015 album Ego Death, released through Odd Future and Columbia, earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album and remains a high point. After that, each member went off to record solo material, with Syd, Steve Lacy, and Matt Martians all putting out well regarded projects. The band regrouped for their fourth studio album Hive Mind in 2018, and after a period of hiatus, they have reportedly been working on new music.
