About
The Longshot is the side project Billie Joe Armstrong, frontman of Green Day, put together in Oakland in 2018 after wrapping up the Revolution Radio World Tour. He brought in Green Day touring guitarist Jeff Matika on bass, drummer David S. Field, and Kevin Preston on rhythm guitar. Preston had already been part of another Green Day adjacent project, Foxboro Hot Tubs, so the chemistry was there from the start. The band moved fast, dropping a self titled EP and their debut album Love Is for Losers within the same week in April 2018. They also put out three more EPs, Return to Sender, Razor Baby, and Bullets, plus a handful of songs Armstrong wrote for the film Ordinary World, a movie he also acted in. The Longshot gave Armstrong room to stretch out in a rawer, leaner rock direction while Green Day fans briefly panicked about whether their main act had called it quits.
