About
The Magpie Salute grew out of Rich Robinson's post Black Crowes years, and from the start it felt less like a solo project and more like a full band reunion of some familiar faces. Alongside Robinson, the lineup brought in former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford and bassist Sven Pipien, plus UK singer John Hogg, whose soulful voice and London flavoured lyrics gave the band a distinct edge. Their debut recordings also carry a bittersweet note: keyboardist Eddie Harsch, a Black Crowes veteran who was set to tour with the group, passed away in November 2016, making the self titled live album his final recorded appearance. The band hit the ground running with sold out shows at New York's Gramercy Theatre in early 2017, then rolled through a 60 date US tour that took in Red Rocks Amphitheater. Their two studio albums, High Water I and High Water II, leaned deep into blues rooted rock territory. American Songwriter gave the second record four out of five stars, praising its consistent quality and commitment to the blues.
