The Murder Capital set up their own label, Human Season Records, before releasing their debut studio album When I Have Fears in 2019, produced by Flood, and it landed to widespread critical acclaim. The Dublin five piece play a dark, intense brand of post punk that draws comparisons to Joy Division, Shame, Savages, and fellow Irish act Fontaines D.C., though their lyrical focus is very much their own. Vocalist James McGovern has been vocal about housing crises, homelessness, mental health, and the social pressures reshaping Dublin, and those concerns run through the music like a fault line. The band played Coachella in 2023, and in February 2025 they released their third album Blindness, which tackles obsession, deceit, rejected faith, and the distortions of patriotism.
