If you were anywhere near a UK dancefloor in 1996, you probably heard 'Blurred' without even knowing the name behind it. That track, by Bradford producer James Sammon recording as Pianoman, climbed to number 6 in the UK Singles Chart and became one of those piano led anthems that defined a very specific era of British dance music. The nickname itself came naturally: a Bolton record shop owner started calling Sammon 'Pianoman' because of all the piano heavy dance records he was pushing out, not because of any Billy Joel connection. Sammon is not a one trick producer. Across his career he has worked in drum and bass, garage, 2 step, house, R&B and bassline, and has remixed tracks for Ian Brown, Craig David and Donna Air. He has released music under a string of aliases including Bass Boyz, Hidden Agenda and 2tyme, and alongside writing partner Alan Hinton he runs his own publishing company, Blurred Music, administered by Bucks Music Group.
