About
The Rare Occasions built their reputation the slow way, releasing a string of EPs through the early 2010s before their TikTok moment arrived a decade in. That moment came courtesy of "Notion," a track from their 2016 EP Futureproof, which went viral on the platform in October 2021 and introduced the band to a far wider audience than their indie rock roots had reached. The band, now a trio of Brian McLaughlin, Jeremy Cohen, and Luke Imbusch, writes music that ranges from garage rock energy to orchestral indie pop, with McLaughlin's lyrics leaning philosophical and often existentialist. Their 2021 album Big Whoop pushed into Wall of Sound guitar territory and electronic textures, while their 2024 album Through Moonshot Eyes marks their most recent full statement. After a period of silence following some offstage turbulence on their 2024 tour, they resurfaced in late 2025 with hints of new music on the way.
