About

Also known as: Barry & The Remains

Opening for the Beatles on their final US tour in 1966 is the kind of thing that should have launched a band into the stratosphere, but for the Remains it turned out to be more of a farewell. The Boston garage rock group, led by singer and guitarist Barry Tashian, had already built a devoted following across New England with sharp, hard edged tracks like the Bo Diddley influenced "Diddy Wah Diddy" and the swinging original "Why Do I Cry". They signed to Epic Records, appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, and recorded a solid debut album, yet the band dissolved by the end of 1966. Decades later, cult status caught up with them. Their final single "Don't Look Back" landed on the legendary Nuggets compilation, reintroducing them to new generations of garage rock fans, and a 2008 documentary called America's Lost Band cemented their reputation as one of the great what might have been stories in American rock. They reformed in the late 1990s, played revival shows on both sides of the Atlantic, and recorded a second album, Movin' On, in 2002.
