About
The Taxpayers are a folk punk outfit from Portland, Oregon whose music sprawls across hardcore, bluegrass, and anti folk, all held together by a fierce DIY ethic and narrative driven songwriting. Their 2012 concept album God, Forgive These Bastards follows the fictional life of a baseball player named Henry Turner and was released alongside a novel written by principal songwriter Rob Taxpayer. The track "I Love You Like An Alcoholic" from that record has clocked over 117 million streams on Spotify, partly thanks to a wave of TikTok attention. The band also has a quiet foothold in pop culture: a live version of their 2007 song "Medicines" serves as the opening and closing theme for the long running comedic medical podcast Sawbones. After a lengthy hiatus, they returned in 2025 with their seventh studio album Circle Breaker, recorded in just one week and wrestling with pandemic angst, nihilism, and personal loss. The lineup shifts fluidly between three and eight members live, with everyone going by the surname Taxpayer to stay anonymous.
