About
The Urges are a Dublin psychedelic garage rock band who made their name the long way round, building a fanbase across Europe on lo fi home recordings before most people back home were paying attention. Their debut single, "Around and (Around Again)", was produced by Pete Holadai of The Radiators From Space and climbed to number 20 in the Irish charts, with the B side "Jenny Jenny" later landing on a Parisian garage compilation next to The Chesterfield Kings and The Hives. Things really kicked off with the 2007 debut LP Psych Ward, recorded in five days at an analogue studio in Gijon, Spain, then mixed twice. It drew positive reviews worldwide and led to a deal with Little Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool label in New York, plus a slot at the Cavestomp festival. Radio sessions followed for 2FM, WFMU and the BBC. After a few singles on Mersol Music, including a Record Store Day release, their second album, Time Will Pass, arrived in 2016.
