Orange County's The Vandals have been shaking up punk since 1980, and what sets them apart from nearly every other band in the genre is their commitment to comedy. While most punk acts were rallying around politics and social causes, the Vandals were writing songs about riding Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean on LSD and poking fun at anarchism with "Anarchy Burger (Hold the Government)." That irreverent streak has been a constant across ten studio albums, three live records, and countless Vans Warped Tour appearances. The classic lineup of Dave Quackenbush, Joe Escalante, Warren Fitzgerald, and Josh Freese has been locked in since 1990, giving the band a stability that belies their chaotic early years. Escalante co founded Kung Fu Records in 1996, which has become the home for the band's output and a launchpad for plenty of other punk acts. Fitzgerald typically handles production duties, keeping the Vandals sound tight while leaving plenty of room for the jokes.
