The Whitest Boy Alive began as an electronic dance music project in Berlin back in 2003, but gradually shed all the programmed elements to become a proper live band. The lineup centers on Erlend Øye of Kings of Convenience fame on guitar and vocals, with Marcin Öz on bass, Sebastian Maschat on drums, and Daniel Nentwig handling Rhodes piano and Crumar. Their debut album Dreams came out in 2006, followed by Rules in 2009, the latter recorded in a studio on the Mexican coast in Nayarit. The track '1517' even made it onto the FIFA 10 soundtrack. After calling it quits in 2014, they quietly started finding their way back together. A reunion show in Sicily in 2017 led to a fuller comeback, and in 2020 they dropped 'Serious', their first new single in over a decade, recorded in Buenos Aires. The COVID pandemic then stranded Øye and Maschat in Baja California Sur, where the two made the best of it and recorded Quarantine At El Ganzo in a hotel studio.
