Thomas Bergersen is the Norwegian composer behind some of the most recognisable trailer music of the past two decades, co founding Two Steps From Hell alongside Nick Phoenix and placing his orchestral work in campaigns for franchises like Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter and The Dark Knight. He pulls off a rare trick: music built for cinemas and trailers that racks up over 2 million Spotify streams a month in the classical crossover space. Beyond Two Steps From Hell, Bergersen has a substantial solo catalogue worth digging into. His ongoing Humanity series, a planned seven part exploration of human emotion, has been rolling out since 2020 and reached its fifth chapter in 2023. He builds most of his sounds from scratch, recording orchestras and world instruments himself rather than relying on off the shelf libraries, which gives his work a texture you do not often hear elsewhere. Gustav Mahler sits at the top of his influences list, though he freely admits Katy Perry is in there too.
