Tierney Sutton has spent more than two decades leading one of jazz's most genuinely collaborative bands. The Tierney Sutton Band operates more like a collective than a traditional fronted group, with pianist Christian Jacob, bassists Trey Henry and Kevin Axt, and drummer Ray Brinker all sharing in musical and business decisions together. That spirit of collective consultation comes directly from Sutton's Baha'i faith, and you can hear it in the arrangements, which feel organic and conversational rather than arranged around a single star. Her voice and the band's approach have earned multiple Grammy nominations, including nods for Paris Sessions and The Sting Variations, both in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category. The band has headlined Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and Jazz at Lincoln Center, and their work extended to the big screen when Christian Jacob scored the Clint Eastwood film Sully, with Sutton and the band performing the music. Her most recent release is The Paris Sessions 2, out in 2022.
