Tierra Whack

About

Also known as: Tierra Sharday Whack-Welton

Tierra Whack built her reputation in Philadelphia, but it was a wildly original debut that put her on the map internationally. Her 2018 mixtape Whack World is genuinely unlike anything else: fifteen tracks, each exactly one minute long, each paired with its own short film. Pitchfork handed it a Best New Music tag, and critics couldn't stop talking about it. Her earlier single "Mumbo Jumbo", in which she raps in deliberately unintelligible syllables while wearing a mouth prop, scored a Grammy nomination for Best Music Video. She's often compared to Missy Elliott for the sheer creativity she brings to her visuals, and she's collaborated with Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Tyler the Creator, and Chief Keef, among others. More recently she's been putting out tracks like "Link" and "Heaven", keeping the same unpredictable energy that made her a cult favourite in the first place.
