About

Timebox were a British psychedelic pop band from Southport who came together in late 1965 and quickly made their way to London, picking up tours alongside The Kinks and The Small Faces. After a couple of singles on Piccadilly Records, they signed to Deram and put out five singles between 1967 and 1969, with their best chart moment coming from a cover of The Four Seasons' Beggin', which reached number 38 in the UK. Key to their later sound was the arrival of singer and songwriter Mike Patto, alongside drummer John Halsey and the remarkably versatile Ollie Halsall on vibraphone and guitar. When their final single stalled in 1970 and keyboardist Chris Holmes departed, the remaining core of Patto, Halsey, Halsall and Griffiths regrouped under the name Patto and went on to release three albums with producer Muff Winwood before calling it a day in 1973. Timebox never broke through in a big way, but they left behind a solid run of late sixties British psychedelic pop that still turns heads among fans of the era.
