About

Tiny Ruins grew out of the solo work of Auckland singer and songwriter Hollie Fullbrook, eventually expanding into a full band that has become one of New Zealand's most consistently interesting indie folk acts. The debut album Some Were Meant for Sea came out in 2011, and off the back of it Fullbrook found herself opening for Fleet Foxes and touring alongside Calexico and Beach House. With Cass Basil and Alexander Freer joining the lineup, the band recorded Brightly Painted One, released in 2014 and awarded Best Alternative Album at the New Zealand Music Awards that same year. All four of their studio albums have been shortlisted for the Taite Music Prize, which says a lot about the quiet consistency they have built over the years. A side project in 2016 saw Fullbrook team up with Hamish Kilgour and drummer Gary Hunt for the Hurtling Through release, showing a willingness to step outside the Tiny Ruins sound when the right collaboration comes along.
