Named after the Shakespeare play, Titus Andronicus are a punk leaning indie rock band from Glen Rock, New Jersey who have built a reputation for ambitious, sprawling records that refuse to sit still. Their breakthrough came with The Monitor in 2010, a concept album loosely tied to the American Civil War that landed at No. 7 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and earned them a spot on Rolling Stone's list of the seven best new bands of that year. From there the band kept swinging for the fences. The Most Lamentable Tragedy, released in 2015, clocked in at 93 minutes across 29 songs structured as a five act rock opera, with frontman Patrick Stickles describing it as a complicated metaphor about manic depression. A Productive Cough in 2018 took a more ballad oriented turn, while An Obelisk arrived the following year. Their seventh studio album, The Will to Live, came out in 2022. Influences like Neutral Milk Hotel and Pulp give you a rough sense of the territory, but Titus Andronicus reliably push further than either.
