Taking their name from a Monty Python sketch about a fictional band, Toad the Wet Sprocket turned what vocalist Glen Phillips called "a joke that went on too long" into one of the more distinctive careers in 1990s alternative rock. The Santa Barbara four piece broke through with their 1991 album fear, scoring top 20 Billboard Hot 100 hits with "All I Want" and "Walk on the Ocean", then followed up with Dulcinea in 1994, which gave them "Fall Down" at number one on the Modern Rock charts and another platinum certification. Their 1995 rarities set In Light Syrup even landed a song on the Friends soundtrack. After splitting in 1998 and drifting back together for sporadic summer tours from 2006 onward, they made it official with a full reunion in 2010. New Constellation came out in 2013 and their most recent full length, Starting Now, arrived in August 2021, showing the band still very much in the game after more than three decades.
