About

Also known as: Jennifer Young Lee, TOKi MONSTA, TOKi MONSTer

TOKiMONSTA makes the kind of electronic music that earns its name: her alias blends the Korean word for rabbit with a colloquial spelling of monster, and that tension between soft and unsettling runs all through her sound. The LA based producer and DJ, real name Jennifer Lee, was the first woman to sign to Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder label, debuting with Midnight Menu in 2010. Her collaborators read like a who's who of left field hip hop and electronic music, including Anderson.Paak, EarthGang, Isaiah Rashad, and ZHU, and her remix work stretches from Duran Duran to the Squid Game theme. In 2019 she became the first female Asian American producer nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance and Electronic Album category, for Lune Rouge, an album she made while recovering from two brain surgeries after a diagnosis of Moyamoya disease. The fact that she rebuilt her relationship with sound during that recovery and turned it into her most personal record says a lot about how she works. Her 2025 album Eternal Reverie shows she is still very much at it.
