About
Tom Middleton has spent decades quietly shaping some of the most distinctive corners of electronic music. As one half of Global Communication alongside Mark Pritchard, he helped create 76:14, the 1994 ambient album that became a genuine landmark of the genre. The two also worked under a string of aliases, ranging from Reload for experimental techno to Jedi Knights for electro funk and house, and they co founded the Evolution label, which gave early platforms to artists including Matthew Herbert. As a solo artist, Middleton keeps ambient and classical traditions at the centre of his work, blending orchestral and choral arrangements with electronica. His album Lifetracks came out in 2007, followed by Glasstracks in 2011 and Sleep Better in 2018. He also has a gift for mixing across wildly different styles: his 2004 BBC mix The Trip was called a voyage of discovery full of originality and eclecticism, which is about as good a summary of his whole approach as you will find.
